Penn State Golfer T.J. Howe Named Golfweek's Player of the Week

May 24, 2010

University Park, Pa. - Nittany Lion golfer T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) is making sure that the last few weeks of the 2010 men's golf season are his most memorable and most accomplished. In response to this weekend's success at the 2010 East Regional qualifying tournament, Golfweek has recognized Howe as the Player of the Week.

Howe took the East-Regional field by storm as he walked off the Yale links tying for first, the best individual regional finish by any Nittany Lion golfer in program history. Howe's first-place tie with individual participant Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State marks his second first-place finish of his Lion career and his eighth top-10 finish.

Howe blazed through the final 18 holes posting a career-low 4-under par, 66, beating his previous personal best, 67, carded at the 2009 Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The Pennsylvania native shot rounds of 69-68-66 (203) to trump the highly ranked field and help earn Penn State a fourth-place finish, a triumph, nearly beating top-ten teams such as No. 6 UCLA and No. 7 Texas.

Howe will join the rest of his team in the last tournament of his career in Chattanooga Tenn., for the 2010 NCAA Finals June 1-6.
