Weather Hampers Second Round of NCAA Men's Golf Nationals, PSU To Finish Thursday Prior to Round Three

June 2, 2010

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - A lightening delay at the Second Round of NCAA Nationals pushed action back and rendered the round incomplete as darkness fell, leaving the Nittany Lion men's golf team in 30th place and just short of a complete round on day two of competition. Redshirt-junior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) and senior Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) each have one hole remaining in the Second Round. Despite the delay, the Nittany Lions' three other competitors were able to complete the Second Round before play was suspended Wednesday. Second Round action will resume on Thursday morning at 7 a.m. and be followed by Third Round action after the pairings are set.

Junior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) continued to lead Penn State's charge, posting a +4 (76) on the day and is now +3 for the tournament. Freshman Ernie Marin (Miami, Fla.) had the best Round Two outing for Penn State and was even for the day, showing a five-stroke improvement on his First Round total. Marin is +5 through two rounds.

Howe was +2 (+6 overall) and has one hole remaining in the second round, while Foley was +4 (+11 overall), also with one hole remaining. Senior Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa.) finished today's round at +7 and is +12 for the tournament through two rounds.

NCAA Nationals action will continue on Thursday at the Honors Course starting at 7 a.m. with the conclusion of the Second Round. The Third Round is estimated to start around 9 a.m., but will begin no earlier than 9 a.m. The top eight teams after the Third Round advance to match play.

Florida State is currently leading the field with a two-day total of 562 (-14). Oklahoma State is second with a 567 (-9) after being tied with the Seminoles at the conclusion of the First Round.
