Glass, Hodge and Harmotto Aid U.S. Women at Pan Am Cup

June 21, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A trio of Nittany Lion women's volleyball alums are making an impact on the U.S. Women's National Team at the IX Women's Pan Am Cup in the neighboring Mexico towns of Tijuana and Rosarita. Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich.), Christa Harmotto (Aliquippa, Pa.) and Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) have all seen time in three U.S. victories against Peru, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago. The U.S. Women are back in action tonight against Costa Rica.

The U.S. Women opened Pan Am play with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-17) victory against Peru on June 18. Hodge, who started at outside hitter, tallied nine kills and one block, while Glass has three kills in four attempts. As the starting setter, Glass guided the U.S. to a 46 kill percent and a .323 hitting efficiency.

The pair had another strong match in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-14) victory against Puerto Rico on June 19. Hodge posted 13 kills in 20 attempts with no errors for a .650 hitting efficiency. Glass had a match-high four blocks and had two kills on two attacks. She helped the Americans to a 49.4 kill percent and a .434 hitting efficiency.

On June 20, the U.S. Women improved to 3-0 in pool B play with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-11) sweep of Trinidad & Tobago. Harmotto started the second and third sets at middle blocker and registered seven points on six kills and one block. Glass started the first and second sets at setter.

Glass, Harmotto and Hodge were four-year members of the Penn State women's volleyball team under head coach Russ Rose. Harmotto aided the Nittany Lions in back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2007 and 2008, while Hodge and Glass closed out their Nittany Lion careers guiding PSU to an unprecedented third straight national title in 2009.
