Northwoods League Release | Mankato MoonDogs Release

MANKATO, Minn. - Penn State third baseman Jordan Steranka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been selected for the Northwoods League All-Star Game, which is set for next Tuesday at 8:35 p.m. ET. Steranka, who is suiting up for the Mankato MoonDogs this summer, becomes the second Nittany Lion selected for his league's respective midsummer classic. Rising sophomore Luis Montesinos (Miami, Fla.) played in the Florida League All-Star Game Wednesday night.

The game features 26 top players from each division. It includes players from some of the top collegiate programs in the nation, including teams like Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Kansas and more.

The two-day event will begin on July 19 with a banquet recognizing the All-Stars. July 20 features the home run derby at 7:05 p.m. (ET) prior to the game at 8:35 (ET).

Steranka has solidified himself as one of the Northwoods League's best hitters this summer. He is batting .331 (ninth in the league) with two home runs and a team-best 22 RBI (also 10th in the league). He has a league-leading 13 doubles while his 50 hits are fourth-most.

The Pittsburgh native is coming off an impressive first two seasons for the Nittany Lions. Overall, he is hitting .327 with 13 home runs and 86 RBI in his young collegiate career. He has already racked up 140 hits and looks to become only the eighth player in school history with at least 200 career hits. Steranka made a splash in his rookie campaign, being named an All-Big Ten and All-Freshman performer in 2009 before following it up with a strong sophomore campaign which featured a career-high seven home runs and 44 RBI.
