HAMILTON, Ohio - Penn State and current Hamilton Joes pitcher Mike Franklin (Harleysville, Pa.) was named Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday after winning both starts this past week. He joins Neal Herring (West Chester, Pa.) as Nittany Lions to win their respective league's Pitcher of the Week honors this summer.

Franklin tossed 13.0 innings while striking out five in his first two starts of the summer. He sparkled in his first start on Wednesday (July 21), going six innings in a 4-2 win over the Grand Lake Mariners. He allowed only two hits and one earned run, losing a no-hitter on a check swing bloop hit in the sixth.

He earned his second win of the week (and season) on Sunday, going the full seven innings for the win in game one of a doubleheader. Hamilton went on to beat the Stark County Terriers, 5-4, in his game (and 4-3 in the nightcap).

Here is the Great Lakes League Complete Release:

This week's Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Players of the Week are Hamilton Joes' Michael Franklin and Delaware Cows' Evan Shaw. Both receive the award with only a few games left in the season, and are receiving the title of GLSCL Player of the Week for the first time.

Franklin, receiving the title of Pitcher of the Week, compiled a 2-0 record this past week, which includes a complete game. Franklin went for 13 innings pitched and had 5 strikeouts. He takes the place of fellow Joes' teammate and pitcher Brent Suter, who received Pitcher of the Week the past two weeks.

Opponent and Cows' player Shaw complements Franklin's accomplishments. Shaw went .500 in the past week in 10 for 20, with 9 runs, 1 triple, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

Both the Cows and the Hamilton Joes play tonight. The Joes' game kicks off at 3 p.m. against the Lexington Hustlers at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. The Cows face the Lake Erie Monarchs in Delaware at Ohio Wesleyan University at 5 p.m.

The GLSCL would like to congratulate Michael Franklin and Evan Shaw for their success with the league this season.
