UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's golf team welcomed back former players for an alumni celebration of the nearly 50 years of women's golf at the university. The Women's Golf Alumni Extravaganza took place from August 27-29, 2010.

"Many thanks to Mike Milliron and the Varsity S Club for their sponsorship and to Kelly Grimes and Mary Kennedy-Zierke for assisting with recruiting alumni to participate," said head women's golf coach Denise St. Pierre. "Thank you to Jim Nachtman and his staff in helping to put together our alumni CD compiling photos from over the years."

The program showcased and displayed the new Tombros Varsity Team Clubhouse, which was recently built to accommodate both the women's and men's golf teams. The 2010 Golf Alumni Reunion consisted of many activities, which began with a reception at the Nittany Lion Inn on Friday night from 7-9 p.m. On Saturday, there was a tour of the new Tombros Varsity Team Clubhouse, located near the main clubhouse of the Blue and White Courses. The new state-of-the-art clubhouse was on display for all former players in attendance.

Players from nearly every decade of Penn State women's golf made an appearance, starting with the alumni from the 1970s, with some traveling from as far as Florida. Former head women's golf coaches Sarah Annette Thompson and Mary Kennedy-Zierke were also in attendance. Following the tour on Saturday, the 18-hole scramble format golf tournament began with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Alumni were paired with their former teammates in the tournament. After the tournament there was a catered dinner and bar reception at the new Tombros Varsity Clubhouse for all participants.

Each participant received a copy of a CD with photos of alumni, a Nittany Lion belt, a special alumni shirt and a backpack.

The women's golf team begins its 2010-11 season on Sept. 13 at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
