Women's Soccer Releases Exciting Promotional Schedule

2010 Women's Soccer Promotional Schedule • Penn State Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 12 Penn State women's soccer team will kick off a season of great promotions at Jeffrey Field this season beginning with its home opener on Friday at 7:30 against No. 15 Virginia. All regular season soccer games and parking at Jeffrey Field are free.

PSU (1-0-0) will be hosting Virginia (2-0-0) on Friday and has executed a campus-wide promotion to gather the largest attendance at a women's soccer game in Jeffrey Field history. The current mark is 3,208 set in 2006 and Friday's goal is to see 4,500 fans pack the stands of the intimidating home of the Nittany Lions.

The 12-time defending Big Ten champions will also be giving away posters and magnets on Friday to celebrate the 2010 Nittany Lions. Additionally, students on campus are invited to join Nittany Nation in the East Stands to create the best student supporters section in the Big Ten. At halftime, a game between the Caribbean Student and Black Student Associations will take place in bringing together as many students to Penn State soccer games as possible.

On Sunday against William & Mary, Penn State athletics will host a student pizza day as well as beginning its new "Kickin' it With..." series of games, where selected communities and associations will be celebrated at Jeffrey Field on game day. The game, which starts at 2:30 p.m., will feature the Centre Soccer Association with a post-game autograph session to follow for fans, which will take place after every Sunday home game.

Three games are scheduled for September with regional rival Bucknell coming to town on Wednesday the 15th at 7:00 p.m. That night will be Kickin' it With Our Heroes as it is Military, Heroes and Serviceman Appreciation Day at Jeffrey Field. Posters and magnets will also be given away.

On Sunday, Sept. 19, Penn State teams up with U.S. Youth Soccer for U.S. Soccer Youth National Day. The first 300 children will receive special U.S. Soccer clappers. Fans are also encouraged to participate in Jersey Day. Wear your favorite jersey for a free prize. Bedford County Kids will be featured in the "Kickin' it With" series as well as post-game autographs.

October kicks off against Minnesota on Friday the 15th for a heated Big Ten battle. It will be Alumni Weekend celebrating the best of Penn State soccer and Oktoberfest at Jeffrey Field. A silent auction will be held to win jerseys from the Women's Professional Soccer league as well as U.S. National Team gear. It will be the first Friday night Big Ten game for an important opponent, the Golden Gophers. Fans from Blair County will be recognized for an energized and exciting atmosphere of Big Ten soccer.

Sunday, Oct. 17 sees nationally ranked Wisconsin come to town for a Noon kickoff. The game, which will be taped on Big Ten Network, is Faculty Appreciation Day as well as Passback Program Day. Fans are encouraged to bring new and gently used soccer gear to donate for charity. A special Mascot vs. Kids game will take place at halftime, Clinton County is the "Kickin' it With" series honorees and post-game autograps will follow the conclusion of the match.

Penn State hosts Indiana on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Jeffrey Field, celebrating Pink Day. The players and coaches will be sporting pink warm ups and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game for breast cancer awareness. All donations will be awarded to Mount Nittany Medical Center for Breast Cancer Research. Another silent auction will take place that night for an exclusive chance to buy a PSU jersey. Children will get the opportunity to partake in a Halloween costume contest and parade out onto the field at halftime.

The final regular season match of the season for the Nittany Lions will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7 as Penn State salutes its two fine seniors, Danielle Toney (Northville, Mich.) and Megan Monroig (Northumberland, Pa.). The game, which will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network, will be promoted with special giveaways to stay warm in the cool autumn months. Hand and feet warmers as well as hot apple cider, cocoa and other great items will be given away/sold on site for fans. PSU will be Kickin' it With Huntingdon County on that day and a special halftime contest, which will feature previous contestant winners from previous games, will take place for a grand prize.

Stay in touch with Penn State women's soccer throughout the year and enjoy all the promotions the 2010 Nittany Lions have in store this season. PSU set a new attendance record in 2009 for average attendance with 1,138 fans. Last season, 14,378 attended Penn State women's soccer matches over 12 games and PSU is looking to see 13,000 walk through the Jeffrey Field gates for its nine regular season matches.
