UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Newly-appointed Penn State women's lacrosse assistant coach Amy Altig has been named to the 2010-11 U.S. National Team, US Lacrosse announced earlier this week. The squad was selected following three days of tryouts, which were held at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County from July 30-Aug. 1.
The 36 players chosen for the team will train for the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup.
Altig, a goalkeeper, was an alternate on the 2009 U.S. World Cup Team and has been a member of several U.S. Elite and Development Teams. In the summer of 2008, she earned a spot on the U.S. Touring Team that traveled to the Czech Republic to compete in the Prague Cup.
Altig played collegiately at James Madison University, receiving All-CAA honors twice. In her senior season, she ranked in the top 20 in Division I in save percentage and goals against average.
The location and dates of the 2013 FIL World Championship have not yet been announced by the Federation of International Lacrosse. In 2009, Team USA won the gold at the quadrennial event, beating Australia, 8-7, in Prague, Czech Republic. The U.S. women's senior team has won either gold or silver in all seven world championships conducted since 1986.
