Softball Kicks Off Fall Campaign at Lock Haven on Sunday

Sept. 22, 2010

2010-11 Schedules • Nittany Lion Park Construction

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State softball squad will begin its 2010 Fall slate this Sunday with two games at Lock Haven. The Nittany Lions will face Division II powerhouse Lock Haven at 10:30 a.m. before taking on Bucknell at 12:30 p.m.

Penn State normally hosts its off-season exhibition games on campus, but due to construction at Nittany Lion Park, PSU will be traveling on the road this year. After the two-game set at Lock Haven, the Nittany Lions travel down to Virginia Tech for four games on Saturday, Oct. 2 and Sunday, Oct. 3 in Blacksburg, Va. There, Penn State takes on Virginia Tech followed by Liberty on each day at 10:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

Construction on the $10.2 million state-of-the-art softball complex began on March 28 and will be completed in time for the 2011 season. Nittany Lion Park is set to open on March 22, 2011 with a doubleheader against Buffalo.

The Nittany Lions lost just one starter, Academic All-American Ashley Griffith, from last season's team that won 29 games, a 12-win improvement from the 2009 season. The 2011 season is set to begin on Feb. 18 at the Florida Atlantic Kick-Off against Tulsa. More details about the complete 2011 season when dates and opponents are finalized will be released in the near future.
