Penn State Women's Tennis Travels to Hokie Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; September 30, 2010 - The Penn State women's tennis team will play its second tournament of the season Friday at the 17th Annual Hokie Fall Invitational on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The tournament will run through Sunday.

Penn State is among 15 teams competing in the invitational. The Nittany Lions are the lone Big Ten team in a field with squads from multiple conferences.

In action this weekend will be juniors Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Kristen Roth (Ardmore, Pa.) and Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine), and sophomore Sarah Henderson (Bloomington, Ind.) and freshmen Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada), and Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada). All players will be competing in both doubles and singles action in Blacksburg.

The event includes six 16-player singles draws and one eight-player singles draw, as well as three 16-team doubles brackets.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center with one doubles match, followed by two rounds of singles play. Saturday will consist of two doubles rounds and one singles match. All finals matches will be played at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Joining the Nittany Lions and host Hokies at the Hokie Fall Invitational are East Carolina, Louisville, Winthrop, East Tennessee State, UNC-Wilmington, UMBC, Radford, Liberty, James Madison, Marshall, Davidson, William & Mary and Richmond.
