Women's Tennis Concludes Second Day of Hokie Fall Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va.; October 2, 2010 - The Penn State women's tennis team earned two singles wins and one doubles win on the second day of the Hokie Fall Invitational Saturday. The tournament will conclude tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.

In the Flight C singles consolation bracket, junior Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Kelly Cameron of UNC-Wilmington, 6-2, 6-2, and will face Marshall's Maria Voscekova at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow for fifth place. In the Flight F consolation bracket, junior Kristen Roth (Ardmore, Pa.) defeated Casey Dashiell of UNC-Wilmington, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9). Roth will face Richmond's Mariana Arana at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow for fifth place. In Flight B, freshman Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada), who had two byes, will play Marshall's Kristina Kopricina at noon tomorrow for ninth place in the flight.

Freshman Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada) was defeated by Marshall's Catherine Kellner, 6-2, 6-3, in Flight A consolations. Sandor will play Richmond's Helen Cunningham at 10:30 a.m. for 11th place. In Flight D consolations, junior Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina), who had a bye today, will play Samantha Galainena of Davidson at 12:30 p.m. for 13th place.

In Flight B doubles, Roth and Perrotta defeated East Tennessee State's Guilia Andreazza and Andra Voinea, 8-2. Roth and Perrotta came up short against Richmond's Sydney Grant and Joanna Matuszczy, 8-2, in the Flight B semifinals. Roth and Perrotta will play in the third place match against Sara Abutovic and Julia Breuss of Winthrop at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Sarah Henderson (Bloomington, Ind.) and Prishlyak were edged by Katie Blow and Megan Conley of Virginia Tech, 8-5 in the second round of the Flight C doubles. In consolation bracket, Henderson and Prishlyak were forced to allow Leah DeMasters and Kristin Nimitz of James Madison to walkover. Henderson and Prishlyak will face Lindsay Leblang and Casey Dashiell of UNC-Wilmington at 9 a.m. for seventh place.

In Flight A doubles play, Sandor and Bedard fell to Paula Jaime and Karina Kedzo of East Tennessee State, 8-5. In the consolation bracket, Sandor and Bedard dropped an 8-3 decision to Radford's Ivana Tomaic and Mirna Matic, 8-3.
