Penn State Women's Tennis Wins Five Matches at ITA Regional

NORFOLK, Va.; October 22, 2010 - The Penn State women's tennis team continued solid play at the ITA Atlantic Regional winning four singles matches and one doubles match.

After earning a first round doubles bye, Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J.) defeated UMBC's Kim Berghaus and Emily Mannix, 8-1, in the second round. The pair also found success in the singles ranks as Januskova beat West Virginia's Melis Tanik, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of singles action, while Simidian bested George Washington's Jacqui Corba, 6-3, 6-3.

Freshman Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada) picked up where she left off in the qualifying round defeating James Madison's Katherine Bulling, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round of the singles main draw. Junior Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) also picked up a singles win defeating Richmond's Kelly Tidwell, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Bedard and junior Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) fell in the second round of doubles play to Maryland's Jordan Hansbrough and Julia Huschke, 8-6. In singles play, Perrotta was bested by Hope Johnson of William & Mary, 7-5, 6-0.
