EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Penn State men's tennis team completed competition at the Big Ten Indoor Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Michigan State campus. The Nittany Lions earned four wins on Sunday as sophomore Bryan Welnetz (Laredo, Texas) and junior Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia) each won two matches.
In back draw singles action, Welnetz defeated Iowa's Garrett Dunn, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-2, to advance to the consolation round of 16. Additionally, Lee defeated Barrett Franks of Michigan, 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 1-0 (4), to earn a round of 16 berth as well. In the round of 32, Welnetz defeated Iowa's Will Vasos, 7-5, 7-6 (5), while Lee downed Indiana's Will Kendall, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8).
In other back draw action, Iowa's Chase Tomlins defeated freshman Russell Bader (Austin, Texas), 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5), while Illinois' Bruno Adelnour earned a victory over junior Chris Hasyn (Lansdale, Pa.), 7-5, 6-4.
Penn State will begin dual match play on Jan. 23 with a doubleheader matchup at home with St. Bonaventure and Lehigh. First serve is set for 10 a.m. against the Bonnies. The Nittany Lions will then travel to Princeton on Jan. 29 before returning home the next day to host Army.
