UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's volleyball team unveiled its 2011 schedule Wednesday, Sept. 30. Matches with nine teams ranked in the final AVCA Division I-II Top 15 poll highlight Penn State's schedule.
The teams from the final poll include No. 3 Cal State Northridge, No. 4 Hawai'i, No. 8 UC Irvine, No. 9 UCLA, No. 10 Ohio State, No. 11 UC Santa Barbara, No. 12 Long Beach State, No. 13 Loyola-Chicago and No. 14 Ball State. The Nittany Lions will also take on Lewis who received votes in the final poll.
Penn State opens the 2011 season at the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Nittany Lions take on UCLA, the host Warriors and Ball State Jan. 13-15. The Lions host Saint Francis (Pa.) in their home opener on Friday, Jan. 15 before welcoming Springfield on Saturday, Jan. 22.
The 2011 spring trip has the Nittany Lions heading to California to face UCLA in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 9. Penn State moves on to Long Beach, Calif. for matches with UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State on March 11 and 12, respectively.
This season's schedule also includes home and away matches with Penn State's Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) opponents, including Saint Francis (Pa.), Springfield, Princeton, Rutgers-Newark and George Mason. The Nittany Lions will also have a home and away series with Ohio State, IPFW and Ball State. In addition, Penn State will welcome Loyola-Chicago, Lewis, Mount Olive and Lees McRae to Rec Hall during the regular season.
The EIVA Quarterfinals are set for Saturday, April 23 with the top two seeds earning a bye. The EIVA Semifinals and Championship take place on Thursday and Saturday, April 28 and 30 on the campus of the top seed.
The Nittany Lions host the 2011 NCAA Semifinals and Finals on Thursday and Saturday, May 5 and 7 at Rec Hall.
