UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State softball team will host a winter softball skills clinic on January 16, 2011 head coach Robin Petrini announced on Tuesday. The clinic will be limited to 60 campers and will take place at the Penn State Multi-Sport Complex and Holuba Hall.
The Penn State Softball Skills Clinic is designed for girls in grades 9-12 and will begin with registration at 9:00 a.m. on Jan. 16. The clinic will give athletes an opportunity to improve their skills with the direction of the Penn State softball coaching staff including assistants Jen McIntyre and Lisa Banse.
The focus of the clinic will teach tactical aspects of softball with a competitive environment. Instruction of all positions will take place including a pitching and catching portion. Clinic participants are instructed to bring all necessary softball equipment (bats, helmets, glove and tennis shoes), while catchers should bring their own gear including shin guards, chest protectors and masks.
The clinic will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a water break provided. Athletes are advised to bring a lunch or snack. The cost of the program is $90 and space will be limited to 60 participants.
The Nittany Lions are scheduled to begin their 2011 season on February 18 with a game against Tulsa at the FAU Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla. Penn State opens its $10.2 million facility, Nittany Lion Park, on March 22 against Buffalo in a doubleheader.
