UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Nov. 27, 2010 - The Nittany Lion basketball team (4-1) will look to rebound from its first loss of the season Sunday when it takes on Furman (3-1) in a 3:30 p.m. tip at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and can be heard live on the Penn State Sports Network (1450 AM locally) with Steve Jones and Dick Jerardi calling the action.
Penn State will be playing its second game in the three days over the Thanksgiving weekend after falling 84-71 at Mississippi on Friday. Talor Battle logged his Big Ten leading 33rd career 20-point game in that contest posting 26 on 5-of-8 shooting from three. David Jackson added 17 and Jeff Brooks continued his strong early play with 15 points and nine rebounds for the Lions.
Battle enters Sunday ranked fourth in the Big Ten in scoring averaging 18.2 ppg while Brooks is ninth at 16.6 ppg and leading the Lions with 7.8 rpg.
Furman is coming off a 59-55 win at South Carolina State on Tuesday. The Paladins lone loss on the season came in overtime at Kent State, 78-74, on Nov. 19. Furman is led by senior forward Amu Saaka who is averaging 19.0 ppg and 8.3 rpg.
Penn State and Furman have never met on the hardwood, but Nittany Lion head coach Ed DeChellis is familiar with the Paladin program from his seven years at East Tennessee State in the Southern Conference. DeChellis is 2-5 all-time vs. the Paladins who went 7-11 in the SoCon last year, but return all five starters and 12 letterman from that team that was 13-17 overall.
