UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's and women's fencers found team success this weekend at the Sacred Heart Invitational. The daylong event hosted six teams, four of which were previous NCAA champions, including the Nittany Lions. The women's team went 5-1 with the men's team going 4-2.
Individually, Monika Aksamit had a standout performance going 17-1 in the women's saber. Returning National Champion Margherita Guzzi Vincenti and Alyssa Vongries came out strong going 16-3 and 11-1, respectively, in the women's epee. Olga Ostatnigrosh finished 15-3 in the women's foil.
In the men's foil, sophomore Daniel Gomez- Tanamachi generated great success ending the day with an 11-2 record. Anthony Green and Samuel Larsen both went 7-4 in the epee competition.
The Nittany Lions have continuously turned out strong team performances this season, showing great promise on their quest for a third consecutive National Title.
Next up for the Nittany Lions is the Atlanta Invitational, set to take place Dec. 18-20, with action beginning at 8 a.m. each day.
