Nittany Lions Face Black Bears On Holiday Hat Night

Dec. 20, 2010

GAME NOTES VS. MAINE

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Dec. 20, 2010 - The Nittany Lion basketball team (7-3) will face the Maine Black Bears (5-5) at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday night in the first game of a holiday double-header with the Lady Lions at the Bryce Jordan Center. Fans will receive a special Holiday Hat while supplies last and can purchase a ticket for both games at a special holiday price of $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Seating for both games will be general admission, so come early and sit close.

The game can be seen live on BigTenNetwork.com or can be heard on the Penn State Sports Network with Steve Jones and Dick Jerardi calling the action.

Penn State will be returning to action after an eight-day lay-off as the University completed finals. The Maine game will mark the last of 11 non-conference outings for the Lions before they begin Big Ten play on Dec. 27 at Indiana.

Talor Battle logged his Big Ten leading sixth 20-point or better game in Penn State's last outing as he posted 26 points in a 79-69 loss at Virginia Tech. Battle was named one of 62 candidates nationally for the Bob Cousy Award given annually to the nation's best point-guard. Battle enters Tuesday with 1,727 career points, good for third all-time at Penn State and stands 412 points shy of the Nittany Lion's all-time scoring record with at least 20 games left in his Penn State career. His current 20.l ppg average on the year is just shy of the 20.6 ppg needed in 20 games to eclipse Jesse Arnelle's (1952-55) 55-year old record.

Maine will bring a three-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest, having knocked off Colgate (78-57) in its last outing. The Black Bears play a deep roster of at least 10 players and are led in scoring by Terrance Mitchell who comes off the bench to post 11.2 ppg.

Penn State holds a 1-0 lead in the series having downed the Black Bears 75-42 at the Bryce Jordan Center in 2006.
