UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's golf team will take part in the hosting of two different camps this summer geared towards boys and girls. The camps will be held at the Penn State Blue and White Courses at the University Park campus.
The Instructional Camp will be held from June 26-July 1, and is directed towards boys and girls entering grades five through 12 next fall. The camp is designed to accommodate golfers of many ages and skill levels. Under the guidance of an outstanding coaching staff, players will get instruction in their golf techniques and swings. After improving swings, the players will be able to take their improved swings to the course to play an improved game. Presentations of specific course management skills and proper practice habits are designed to enhance the performance of the players. Lectures, demonstrations, drill sessions, and playing time are offered daily.
The Competitive Players Camp is focused towards competitive junior players entering grades seven through 12. This Camp has two separate dates, June 19-24 and July 3-8. Golfers will play 18 holes of golf each day. Players will receive instruction on course management, strategies, self-management skill for optimal performance, short game mastery, and full swing mastery. The lectures and demonstrations will focus on skills players will need to get their games to the collegiate level.
Head women's golf coach Denise St. Pierre will co-direct the camp. St. Pierre is in her 18th season as the coach of Penn State's women's golf team, her alma mater. St. Pierre brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to help instruct the campers. She was president of the National Collegiate Golf Coaches Association and was the 2009 recipient of the Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award. To go along with those accolades, St. Pierre was an assistant coach of the U.S. women's golf team at the World University Games in Thailand in 2004. In 2006, she coached the U.S. team to victory at the World University Games in Torino, Italy.
