Indiana Game Notes (1/23/11)

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Coming off of a tough road loss Thursday, the Penn State Lady Lions (15-5, 4-2) return to the friendly confines of the Bryce Jordan Center to face Indiana (8-11, 2-5) on Sunday at 2 p.m. It's another Subway Full Court 4-Pack game where fans can get four tickets, four sodas and a voucher for four 6" Subway subs for $40. Additionally, fans will receive Penn State sunglasses while supplies last.

PROMOTIONS: It's Kids Day at the Bryce Jordan Center, as well as another Subway Full Court 4-Pack game where fans can get four tickets, four sodas and a voucher for four 6" Subway subs for $40. The Frisbee Dogs will be performing at halftime of Sunday's game.

GIVEAWAY: Fans will receive Penn State sunglasses while supplies last.

TELEVISION: The game will be rebroadcast on the Big Ten Network as a "Student U" broadcast on Monday., Jan. 24 at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING INDIANA: The Hoosiers are 8-11 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten with wins over Northwestern and Minnesota. Jori Davis has been the leader for Indiana, averaging 18.0 points, which is third in the Big Ten, and 6.0 rebounds per game. Davis has also dished out 67 assists and has 44 steals in 19 games. Hope Elam accounts for 10.4 points per game and 4.3 rebounds, while Whitney Lindsay chips in 10.1 markers and 2.4 steals, which is second in the Big Ten.

ALL-TIME VS. THE HOOSIERS: The Lady Lions are 25-9 all-time against the Hoosiers, including a 14-2 mark in home games. The squads split the series last season with each team protecting their home court. Penn State posted a 77-71 overtime win at the Jordan Center on Jan. 10, while the Hoosiers picked up a 77-68 in the regular-season finale in Bloomington on Feb. 28. Indiana has won six of the last eight games in the series.

LAST TIME VS. IU: The Lady Lions rallied valiantly from a 23-point deficit in the second half, but it was not enough as they dropped a 77-68 decision at Indiana on Feb. 28, 2010. Alex Bentley led Penn State with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and three assists. Tyra Grant chipped in 14 points, nine rebounds and a pair of assists, while Meredith Monroe notched her second career double-double with 12 points, 11 of which came in the second half, and 12 rebounds.

LAST TIME OUT: A furious second half rally was not enough for the Lady Lions, who struggled with turnovers for most game, Purdue on the way to a 79-69 loss in West Lafayette Thursday. Sophomore guard Alex Bentley paced four Lady Lions in double figures with 14 points. She also added five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Freshman guard Maggie Lucas was 4-for-6 from the field en route to 13 points and a pair of steals, while senior guard/forward Julia Trogele accounted for 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Zhaque Gray chipped in 12 points.

ACCURATE SHOOTING STROKE: Freshman guard Maggie Lucas is currently second on Penn State's single-season three-point field goal percentage chart, while junior Zhaque Gray is fourth on the list. Lucas makes 46.3% of her shots from behind the arc, which trails record-holder Lisa Faloon (54.8%; 1986-87). Gray has made 44.6% of her shots from long range.

LUCAS AMONG NCAA FRESHMEN: Rookie guard Maggie Lucas is fourth among NCAA freshman in scoring with a 16.7 average. She trails UT Martin's Heather Butler (19.8) by 2.3 points per game. Additionally, Lucas is second among NCAA freshman in three-point field goal percentage (.463), behind Baylor's Odyssey Sims (.480). Lucas leads all freshmen in three-point field goals made (69).

GREENE SEVENTH TO 100 BLOCKS: Sophomore center Nikki Greene became the seventh player in school history to reach the 100-block plateau with a pair of rejections against Purdue on Jan. 20. She has 100 blocks in two seasons. Additionally, Greene surpassed the 400-point mark against the Boilers.

The Lady Lions travel to Champaign to face Illinois on Thurs., Jan. 27 before returning to home to face Ohio State on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Pre-game all-sports clinic from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in South Gym for boys and girls, who will get a free ticket to the game. 2010-11 Lady Lion Basketball Single-game tickets are available by calling 814-863-1000 or 800-NITTANY. The PNC Flex Books are available again this year for $99. The Flex Book gives fans 12 vouchers, including one for the Coaches vs. Cancer game and one for the Pink Zone game, that can be redeemed for Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball tickets in any combination.

The 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27 at noon as the Lady Lions take on Northwestern in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network. Last year, the Lady Lions donated more than $80,000 for breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and J.C.
