NAPLES, Fla. - Penn State swimming wrapped up its winter training trip in Florida with a dual meet against North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions captured three events in the non-scoring meet.

Penn State got off to a rousing start as the 200 medley relay of Graham Risley (Riverside, Ill.), Mitch Scherer (Pottstown, Pa.), Sean Grier (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Brian Alden (Lansdale, Pa.) captured top honors with a time of 1:32.66 for a one-second win.

Grier would return to the pool for the 100 backstroke and lead a 1-2 finish in a time of 51.18 as Risley was just a moment's touch behind the freshman backstroke specialist in a time of 51.52.

Luke Bushman (Green Bay, Wis.) won the 200 butterfly in a narrow victory over UNC's Patrick Ceddia with a time of 1:5.06.

In all, the Nittany Lions produced four second-place finishes including Risley's effort in the 100 back. In the 200 back, Grier notched a time of 1:54.93 and was followed by Jeff Gomez (Morristown, N.J.) in third. Scherer garnered second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:07.09, while the 400 free relay matched the place in 3:12.08.

Penn State's swimming & diving team returns to action for a two-day meet at Maryland with Pittsburgh on Jan. 14-15.
