ATLANTIC, Va. - Redshirt-freshman Tani Costa (Honolulu, Hawaii) gathered yet another award on Thursday as Soccer New Net named her the Supporters' Choice honoree on Thursday. The scoring standout was named Philly Soccer News Player of the Year on Tuesday and finished in a tie for National Player of the Year voting.
In a close tally, Melissa Henderson of Notre Dame and Costa finished in a tie for first in the overall voting. Henderson snatched the Player of the Year recognition by virtue of the number of first place votes, while Illinois midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo finished third overall.
Costa gathered the most online votes from fans, earning the inaugural Supporters' Choice Award. Henderson is one of three finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy award, given to the game's most outstanding soccer student-athlete.
