Feb. 1, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Due to the widespread and severe winter storm that has impacted travel throughout much of the nation, the trip to Las Vegas, Nev. that four members of the No. 5-ranked Penn State men's gymnastics were to make this week in order to compete at the 2011 Winter Cup Challenge has been cancelled.

Junior Miguel Pineda (Galloway, Ohio), sophomores Matt Chelberg (Athens, Ohio) and Parker Raque (Louisville, Ky.), and freshman Wasef Burbar (Arlington Heights, Ill.) were scheduled to compete at the prestigious annual USA Gymnastics event, set for Thurs., Feb. 3 and Sat., Feb. 5.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action on Sat., Feb. 12 (7 p.m.) when they host Springfield College at Rec Hall. Penn State has not faced the Pride in dual meet competition since 1979. On Jan. 14, at the 2011 West Point Open, PSU outscored fifth place finisher Springfield, 347.000-319.400, en route to its 13th consecutive team title at the annual competition hosted by Army.
