COLUMBUS, OHIO.; February 12, 2011 - The Penn State women's tennis team (3-3, 0-1) fell in a close match to the No. 66 William & Mary Tribe (3-2) in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, 4-3. Sophomore Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and reshman Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada) picked up singles wins for the Nittany Lions.

In third doubles, sophomore Sarah Henderson (Bloomington, Ind.) and senior Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) were defeated by Marlen Mesgarzadeh and Lauren Sabacinski, 8-3, to fall behind in the battle for the doubles point. The Nittany Lions bounced back in second doubles as sophomore Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J.) and Sandor bested Katie Kargl and Jeltje Loomans, 8-6.

The No. 68 ranked pairing of Januskova and junior Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) clinched the doubles point for the Nittany Lions as they defeated Hope Johnson and Anik Cepeda, 9-7, in first doubles.

As the match turned singles action, the Tribe evened the match at 1-1 as Perrotta fell to Kargl, 6-1, 6-2, in the fifth spot. In first singles, No. 58 ranked Jansukova defeated Nina Vulovich, 6-2, 6-4, to earn her fourth win in five matches and give the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead.

In second singles, Simidian fell to Johnson, 6-2, 6-3, to even the score at 2-2. In third singles, Sandor was forced to three sets, but prevailed over Mesgarzadeh, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. In sixth singles, Henderson won the first set, but dropped the final two to Marvick Mamiit, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, to even the match at 3-3. After losing the first set and tying the match with a second set win, Zobeideh fell in fourth singles in a tiebreak third set to Cepeda, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7).

The Nittany Lions will return to Happy Valley as they take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Sat., Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. Penn State will host their first Big Ten match Fri., Mar. 4, at 6 p.m.
