UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Second Annual Penn State Lady Lion Basketball Pink Zone Champion Award will be given to Fullington Trailways for their generosity in supporting the 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State. Fullington is responsible for coordinating 11 buses from 12 cities across Pennsylvania to bring survivors and their families and Girl Scouts to the Pink Zone game Sunday, Feb. 27 to truly make Pink Zone a statewide event.
The Penn State women's basketball team gives out the Lady Lion Basketball Pink Zone Champion Award at each year's Pink Zone game. This award recognizes those who help champion our cause in finding the cure for breast cancer. The individuals or groups will be chosen to be honored because they have made significant contributions in the area of breast cancer awareness, prevention, education, treatment, research or care.
Fullington donated eight buses that will pick up survivors and Girl Scouts in eight cities in central Pennsylvania. They also worked with their sister companies Susquehanna Trailways and Martz Trailways to get three additional buses to service four additional areas. Fullington has had a large hand in raising survivor attendance, as nearly 45% of the new survivors attending the Pink Zone game will be arriving on a Trailways bus. In all, the 11 Trailways buses will transport 565 passengers, including 92 survivors, to Sunday's game.
The Inaugural Lady Lion Basketball Pink Zone Champion Award winner was the Centre County Breast Cancer Coalition (CCBCC). The CCBCC is a grassroots effort to provide breast cancer screenings to women living in Centre County who are uninsured or underinsured.
The 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27 at noon as the Lady Lions take on Northwestern in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and J.C.
