Penn State Preview
The Nittany Lions improved to 12-3 overall with a 5-0 record in EIVA play after a 3-1 victory at Saint Francis on Feb. 23. Redshirt junior Joe Sunder (Greensburg, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions with 16 kills on .407 hitting. Sophomore Tom Comfort (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was second on the team with 14 kills. Redshirt junior Edgardo Goas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 41 assists and guided Penn State to a .343 attack percentage. Senior Dennis Del Valle (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) had a team-best seven digs and sophomore Ian Hendries (Cardiff, Calif.) led the team with six blocks.
Penn State vs. George Mason
Penn State is 85-14 overall against the Patriots. This will be the 100th meeting between the two squads. George Mason is Penn State's second-most common opponent. The Nittany Lions and the Patriots met twice in 2010 with Penn State first sweeping the Patriots on March 6 and then defeating GMU in four sets on April 17.
Scouting the Patriots
George Mason is 10-3 overall this season with a 5-0 record in EIVA play. The Patriots have won five of their last six matches, including earning wins against Saint Francis, Juniata, Springfield, Princeton and Rutgers-Newark. Their most recent loss came in a 3-0 setback to Sacred Heart on Feb. 12.
What's Next?
Penn State remains on the road traveling to Springfield (3/5), UCLA (3/9), UC Santa Barbara (3/11) and Long Beach (3/12). The Nittany Lions return home to host Ball State and IPFW on March 18-19.
