Men's and Women's Tennis Announce 2011 Summer Camp Dates

Feb. 3, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 3, 2011 - The Penn State men's and women's tennis teams will host two sessions of camps this summer on June 19-23 and June 25-29. The camp is open for students entering grades 6-12 next fall. High school graduates are also welcome to attend.

Penn State tennis camp focuses on individual instruction that takes into account the talent level of all student campers. Both camps will hold drills and practices that will reinforce strategy concepts, supervised match play, and round-robin and team tennis. Student campers will participate in games used to enhance agility, quickness, and endurance. The camps maintain an excellent student-to-instructor ratio to insure individual coaching for each student camper.

All camps will be conducted on Penn State's University Park campus. Resident campers are housed in University residence halls, supervised by camp counselors. Campers may indicate one roommate preference on the registration form. Listing a roommate preference does not guarantee enrollment of the roommate in the camp.

Student campers will play at the Sarni Tennis Center, the state of the art home of the Penn State men's and women's tennis varsity tennis teams. The facility has seven courts, complete with lights and a stadium court. Four indoor courts are also available at the Indoor Tennis Center.

The camp will be run by Penn State head coaches Dawna Denny and Todd Doebler.

Denny begins her fourth year as the head coach of the Penn State women's tennis team. During her time, Denny guided Petra Januskova to the ITA Regional Freshman of the Year award in 2010. Denny comes to Penn State after assisting at Baylor University where she helped the Bears to the Big 12 regular and tournament championship as well as a berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen.

Doebler is in his fifth season leading the men's tennis team. He came to Penn State after being an assistant coach at Notre Dame and Pepperdine. In his first three seasons as head coach, Doebler led the Nittany Lions to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Doebler also has experience as a teaching professional and has helped at many camps.

Also assisting at the camps will be men's and women's assistant coaches Brendan Lynch and Mike Fenwick. Lynch is in his second season coaching after playing for the Nittany Lions from 2005-09. Fenwick is in his first season with the Nittany Lions. Current and former Penn State men's and women's teams, as well as other coaching professionals will assist at the camp.

The fee for both camps is $610 and covers instruction, a camp shirt, housing, and all meals (from dinner on the first day to breakfast on the last day). The commuter camp fee for both camps is $530, including all amenities but housing.
