UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 11 Penn State women's gymnastics team is back in action this weekend hosting Maryland and N.C. State in a tri-meet at Rec Hall. Action is set for 7 p.m. Following the meet, the Nittany Lions will honor seniors Danielle Hover (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Heather McElwee (Pont Vedra, Fla.) for their contributions during their Penn State careers.
The Series: Penn State vs. Maryland
The Nittany Lions and Terrapins have met in each of the last four seasons, including once previously in 2011. Penn State traveled to College Park, Md. on Feb. 18 to take on the Terrapins in a quad meet with Rutgers and William & Mary. The Nittany Lions posted a season-high 196.600, with sophomores Sharaya Musser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Madison Merriam (Gaithersburg, Md.) claiming the top two spots in the all-around competition.
The Series: Penn State vs. N.C. State
Penn State is 5-2 against the Wolfpack. The squads last met at the 2009 NCAA Regional Championships. The 12th-ranked Nittany Lions took second place after scoring a 195.800 and advanced to the NCAA Championships as a team for the first time since 2005. Nineteenth-ranked N.C. State took sixth place having scored a 193.800.
What's Next?
Penn State heads on the road for one final regular season meet at West Virginia on March 12. The Nittany Lions head to the Big Ten Championship hosted by Minnesota on March 19.
