UPDATED (4:20 p.m.): Rain Alters Sunday Schedule at Buzz Classic

March 6, 2011 (Updated 4:20 p.m.)

WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Penn State's game vs. Jacksonville State at 4:00 p.m. was postponed to 7:00 p.m. and moved to a different field The Nittany Lions have postponed tonight's game against Georgia Tech to Tuesday night.

Penn State and Jacksonville State arrived to the field today to find it too wet and unplayable to either coaches' liking. Now the two teams will move to a dry field at the Twin Creeks facility. PSU and Georgia Tech's game that was scheduled for tonight will be postponed to Tuesday at a time and date to be announced later.

Heavy rain from Saturday night's thunderstorms and continued showered on Sunday forced Penn State's games at the Buzz Classic to be pushed back to 4:00 p.m. When the Nittany Lions and Gamecocks got to Twin Creeks Field 4, the field wasn't dry enough and for the safety of the two teams, the game was originally cancelled.

Officials from Georgia Tech, host of the 21-team tournament, announced early this morning that the initial reshuffled scheduled games at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. would be cancelled and a new slate announced due to rain. Saturday's action was completely washed out and a new schedule was made for Sunday.

Both games will have GameTracker for live stats and commentary updates through Twitter at www.twitter.com/PSULionSoftball.

On Friday, Penn State captured two clutch 1-0 victories over Massachusetts and Miami. In the game against UMass, Jackie Hill (San Jose, Calif.) shutdown the Minutewomen with a complete-game shutout, while Cassidy Bell (Bakersfield, Calif.) launched a solo homer to propel the Lions. Penn State's Kasie Hatfield (Lutz, Fla.) matched Bell's effort with a solo blast of her own in the sixth inning of a scoreless game against the RedHawks. Lisa Akamine (Escondido, Calif.) provided the lift in the circle for PSU going the distance.
