UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Redshirt junior outside hitter Joe Sunder (Greensburg, Pa.) was tabbed the EIVA Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. This is the ninth weekly honor for the Nittany Lions this season and the fourth for Sunder.
Sunder guided Penn State to a 1-1 record in its final weekend of regular season play. The Nittany Lions suffered a 3-0 setback to Ball State on April 15, but rebounded with a thrilling 3-2 victory at IPFW on April 16. Against the Cardinals, Sunder led all players with 13 kills and had a team-best seven digs. He also contributed two aces and two blocks. The following night against the Mastodons, Sunder pounded a match-high 24 kills on .412 hitting. He also tallied six digs and three total blocks. For the weekend, Sunder averaged 4.62 kills per set on .346 hitting, 1.62 digs per set and 0.62 blocks per set.
What's Next?
The Nittany Lions have a weekend off before hosting the EIVA Championship on April 28 & 30. Semifinal matches are set for 5:30 and 8 p.m. on April 28 with the final set for April 30 at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall.
