Reilly Named Big Ten Co-Field Athlete of the Week

May 11, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the first time in his young career, sophomore Sean Reilly (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) has been named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, via a personal-best performance in the high jump at last weekend's Jim Thorpe Open at Nittany Lion Track. Reilly joins a quartet of Nittany Lions who have earned conference accolades on the season, including middle-distance stars Ryan Foster (Tasmania, Australia), and Casimir Loxsom (New Haven, Conn.), and throws standouts Joe Kovacs (Nazareth, Pa.), and Karlee McQuillen (Johnstown, Pa.).

Reilly cleared a career-best 7-0.25 (2.14) to win the men's high jump in his final home appearance of the season. Reilly's personal-best clearance is noteworthy at the conference and national levels, as the leap is tied for 18th in the NCAA East Reigon, and ranks third in the Big Ten in 2011. Reilly's effort is also tied for the sixth-highest jump in Penn State history.

The Nittany Lions head into post-season action this weekend, competing at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, set for May 13-15 at the University of Iowa. For more on Nittany Lion track and field, log on to www.GoPSUsports.com.
