UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three former Nittany Lions have helped the U.S. Women's National Team to an undefeated record to start the Montreux Volleyball Masters in Montreux, Switzerland. Alisha Glass, Christa Harmotto and Nicole Fawcett are the Nittany Lions on the U.S. roster, while Penn State women's volleyball head coach Russ Rose is serving as the Team Leader.
The U.S. Women opened the Montreux Volley Masters on Tuesday, June 7 defeating Peru, 3-1 (25-7, 24-26, 25-11, 25-19). Harmotto, who started at middle blocker, tallied nine points off five kills and four blocks. Fawcett contributed six kills and a block, while Glass, who started at setter, posted one kill and seven digs.
On their off day, the U.S. Women challenged Switzerland in an exhibition match. The U.S. won the match, 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-18). Fawcett recorded 11 points against the Swiss on 10 kills in 18 errorless attacks and had one ace.
The U.S. Women remained undefeated Thursday, June 9 with a 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 15-25, 16-14) victory against Germany. Fawcett, who started the final three sets, posted 14 points on 11 kills, two blocks and an ace. Harmotto also posted 14 points in the match with eight kills, a team-high five blocks and one ace. Glass, who started at setter, registered an ace.
