UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three former Nittany Lion women's volleyball players concluded play with the U.S. Women's National Team at the Montreux Volley Masters in Montreux, Switzerland over the weekend. Nicole Fawcett, Alisha Glass and Christa Harmotto were all named to the USA roster for the tournament, while Penn State women's volleyball head coach Russ Rose served as the team leader.
The U.S. women concluded play in Pool A on Friday, June 10 with a 3-2 (25-27, 25-14, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11) setback to China. Glass, who was the starting setter, contributed two blocks, while Fawcett, a sub in the first and fourth sets, contributed one point.
On Saturday, June 11 USA took on Cuba in the semifinals, but suffered a 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 17-25, 26-24) loss. Glass and Harmotto each tallied a point in the match, starting at setter and middle blocker respectively.
The U.S. women closed out the Montreux Volley Masters on Sunday, June 12 in the bronze medal match versus China. China earned a 3-1 (16-25, 25-13, 29-27, 25-23) victory. Fawcett came off the bench in the final two sets and pounded 14 kills and recorded 11 digs. Glass also registered a kill against China.
