UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; July 29, 2011 - The Penn State women's tennis team recently unveiled its schedule for the 2011-12 season. The Nittany Lions will begin the fall portion of their schedule Sept. 23-25 in Philadelphia against the University of Pennsylvania.
Following that match, Penn State will keep busy with three fall tournaments. The Rice Invitational kicks off the tournament schedule with three days of play in Houston on Oct. 7-9. After that trip, the team travels to the ITA Regional Tournament, Oct. 20-24, in Norfolk, Va. For the second year in a row, the Nittany Lions conclude their fall schedule at the Western Michigan Super Challenge, Nov. 4-6, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
In addition to those tournaments, the Nittany Lions have the opportunity to compete in two other tournaments if they individually qualify - the All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Oct. 1-9, and the National Indoors Tournament in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 3-6.
Penn State begins its spring schedule far away from Happy Valley with matches in Manoa, Hawaii, against Hawaii and Baylor, Jan. 5-6. After that trip, Penn State hosts Bucknell and Lehigh on Jan. 21-22, in its first home action.
Notable Big Ten matches include the conference opener at home vs. Ohio State on Feb. 7; a trip to Big Ten newcomer Nebraska on April 1; a match-up set with defending Big Ten champ Michigan on April 20, in University Park; and a match at Michigan State on April 22 to conclude regular season play.
Along with matches against the remaining Big Ten teams, Penn State will battle Pittsburgh, Virginia Commonwealth, Tulane, Marshall, Miami of Ohio and Eastern Michigan in its remaining non-conference matches.
The Big Ten Tournament is scheduled for April 26-29 at a site to be determined.
