UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Nittany Lion softball begins its 2011-12 season on Saturday with a Fall Ball Tournament at Beard Field. Penn State hosts Bucknell at 10:45 a.m., while Delaware and Lock Haven are also on the slate.
The seven-game tournament begins with PSU and Bucknell before Delaware and Lock Haven face off at 1:00 p.m. Penn State and Delaware will meet at 3:15 p.m. before Bucknell and Lock Haven close out Saturday's action at 5:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Bucknell and Lock Haven renew their rivalry at 9:30 a.m. before Penn State finishes with Bucknell and Lock Haven at 11:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
Admission and parking to all games are free at Beard Field and Nittany Lion Softball Park, which is located off Park Avenue next to the East Area Halls. For fans unable to attend the PSU games, score updates will be available on the official Twitter feed of Nittany Lion Softball: @PSULionSoftball.
The Nittany Lions are coming off an NCAA Regional appearance in 2011, which was hosted in University Park. Penn State reached the regional final, but fell to 13th-seeded Oregon in a heartbreaker. The Nittany Lions return seven starters and 15 letterwinners from last season, while adding five freshman newcomers under the direction of 16th-year head coach Robin Petrini.
