Oct. 1, 2011

Los Angeles, Calif. - Junior Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) advanced to the second round of the ITA All-American Prequalifier today.

Januskova defeated Monica Gorny of Duke University, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of prequalifying play. She will face Georgia Tech's Lynn Blau in the round of 32 at 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time. Blau was ranked 124th in the ITA Preseason poll.

To advance to the qualifying round, Januskova will need two more wins in the prequalifier.

Januskova is trying to build off of an impression finish at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia this past weekend. The junior won five straight matches to claim the singles title and placed second in the doubles tournament with her partner Nina Sertic (Zagrab, Croatia).

The entire Nittany Lion team will continue play at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Oct. 7-9.
