Women's Gymnastics to Hold Meet and Greet

Oct. 14, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team is pleased to announce it has partnered with Phi Mu Sorority and will be holding a "Meet and Greet" at the gymnastics practice facility in the White Building on Sunday, Oct. 16. The event is open to the public and begins at 2 p.m.

"We are really excited about partnering with Phi Mu," said associate head coach Rachelle Thompson. "We both feel as though we can help one another grow and work together as one group to touch the community in which we live. The ladies on the team are beyond excited to not only work with another organization outside of athletics, but to have their support as well."

"Phi Mu is very excited to pair with the Penn State women's gymnastics team for their Meet and Greet on Sunday afternoon," said Caitlin Simcox of Phi Mu. "We believe this is a wonderful opportunity for a women's athletic team to work with a Greek organization and become more involved in the State College community."

In addition to the "Meet and Greet", the women's gymnastics team and Phi Mu Sorority are asking those in attendance to join them in writing letters to troops in Afghanistan to thank them for their service. The women's gymnastics team will be available following the activity for pictures and autographs, as well.

The Penn State women's gymnastics team hosts four meets in Rec Hall in 2012. The Nittany Lions open the 2012 slate in a tri-meet at West Virginia with Maryland on Jan. 8, before traveling to New Hampshire on Jan. 14. The Lions welcome Michigan State, Cornell and Alabama to Rec Hall on Jan. 21 for their home opener.

Head coach Jeff Thompson and associate head coach Rachelle Thompson welcome back 10 letterwinners from the 2011 season, including first team All-Big Ten honorees Sharaya Musser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Natalie Ettl (Waukesha, Wis.) and second team All-Big Ten selection Madison Merriam (Gaithersburg, Md.). The Nittany Lions welcome the addition of three newcomers, including freshmen Lexi Carroll (Olney, Md.), Krystal Welsh (Bowie, Md.) and Alex Witt (Odessa, Fla.).
