UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - Senior defensive tackle Devon Still (Wilmington, Del.) has earned two additional Mid-season first-team All-America honors, bringing his total number of honors to four.
Still was selected to the CBSSports.com and SI.com Mid-season All-America teams. He previously had been recognized as an ESPN.com first-team Mid-season All-American, with second-team honors from Phil Steele's College Football.
A candidate for the Chuck Bednarik Award, presented to the nation's top defensive player, Still also was selected runner-up for ESPN.com's Big Ten Mid-season Defensive Player of the Year.
The 6-5, 310-pound Still has been a significant force as the anchor of Penn State's talented defensive line. For the season, the co-captain ranks second in the Big Ten with 10.0 tackles for loss (minus-47) and is tied for second on the team with two sacks. With 34 tackles, including 18 solos, the former Howard Technology High School all-state selection ranks fifth among Nittany Lion defenders and has registered one fumble recovery and one pass break-up.
Still headlines a Nittany Lion defense that is among the nation's elite units, ranking in the top 10 nationally in four of the primary categories. Penn State is sixth in the nation in total defense (264.1 ypg), sixth in scoring (11.6 ppg), seventh in pass defense (161.1 ypg), and third in pass efficiency defense (89.62). The Lions also are 22nd in rushing defense (103.0 ypg), having limited five of seven opponents to less than 100 yards on the ground.
The Nittany Lions have held five of their initial seven foes to 20 points or less, with four of the opponents scoring 10 points or less. Penn State has forced 17 turnovers this season, matching its total from 2010.
