RALEIGH, N.C. - After two rounds of play at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, the Penn State men's golf team sits in 14th with rounds of 287-302 (599).
Senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) holds the best two-round total for the Nittany Lions. With a 147 (73-74) total, McDonagh will go into the third round tied for 26. Sophomore Shane Stewart (Dublin, Ohio) sits three strokes back from teammate McDonagh with an 8-over-par total of 150 (72-78). Stewart is tied for fourth on the player leader board. Junior Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) falls third in the Nittany Lion lineup, having carded a season-low of 73 in the second round. Marin climbed the leader board from tied for 73 to tied for 56 as he improved his first round score of 79 by 6 strokes. Junior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) also improved between rounds with scores of 79-77 (156). Rounding out the Nittany Lion lineup is freshman Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) who carded rounds of 73-84 (157).
The Nittany Lions sit 28 strokes behind first place Memphis who holds rounds of 288-283 (571). The tigers have a three-stroke cushion over second place Louisiana-Lafayette. UNCG's Robert Hoadley moved into the first place position at the conclusion of the second round, having moved up from his tie for fourth. The junior posted a two-round total of 137 (69-68), giving him a one-stroke advantage over Western Carolina's J.T. Poston.
