Women's Tennis Prepares for Western Michigan Super Challenge

University Park, Pa. - The Penn State women's tennis team will compete in its final fall tournament this weekend when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the Western Michigan Super Challenge. This will be the second year in a row the Nittany Lions will finish out fall play in this tournament, which runs from Friday through Sunday.

The WMU Super Challenge consists of a round robin of six teams competing in both doubles and singles matches. Throughout the weekend, Penn State will play in three team doubles matches and three team singles matches.

Along with tournament host Western Michigan, competing this weekend will be DePaul, Iowa State, Louisville, and fellow Big Ten member Indiana. Rounds one and two of doubles will begin Friday as well as round one of singles. Saturday's action will include round two of singles and round three of doubles. The Super Challenge will conclude on Sunday with round three of singles.

Penn State exceled in last year's Super Challenge, the Nittany Lions were crowned both the singles and doubles tournament champions. Junior Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) earned a perfect 6-0 record in the tournament, capturing the singles crown and doubles title with her partner Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

The WMU Super Challenge marks the end of the fall season for the Nittany Lions. Penn State will kick off its regular season when it travels to Hawaii on Jan. 5th.
