Vote for Hayes as Soccer News Net Player of the Year

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's soccer sophomore standout Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.) garnered two more accolades thanks to her sparkling play this weekend in the NCAA Tournament.

Hayes was recognized by TopDrawerSoccer.com and CollegeSoccer360.com for her four-goal performance in the NCAA Tournament this past weekend. Hayes was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week for the fifth time this year after scoring twice in a 4-1 victory over Marquette on Friday and matching that effort in a 4-2 loss at Wake Forest on Sunday. The super sophomore also became a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer for the second time this year thanks to her excellent play.

Hayes is also a candidate for Soccer News Net's Women's Player of the Year. Fans can vote for the prolific scorer HERE.

Hayes had one of the finest offensive years in Penn State women's soccer history, finding the back of the net 31 times, second most in single-season school and Big Ten annals (32, Tiffany Weimer, 2005). Moreover, Hayes broke the Penn State and Big Ten single-season points with 70, besting Weimer's 69 points set in 2005. The New Jersey native led the country in overall scoring by five goals (26, Sarah Hagen, UW-Milwaukee) and total points by nine points (61, Hagen). Hayes scored at a clip of 1.19 goals per game, besting 116 other NCAA Division I teams for scoring average.

Penn State concluded its season at 21-5-0 in the NCAA Third Round, the first time PSU reached that stage of the Division I Championship since 2007. The Nittany Lions will graduate two starters and six letterwinners, while returning nine starters in 2012. Penn State brings back 86% of its goal scoring and 81% of all its points for next year.
