ATLANTA, Ga. - Coming off a well-fought losing effort to Auburn on Friday, the Penn State women's swimming & diving team got back on track on Saturday afternoon, earning a 202.5-93.5 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) captured three events for the Nittany Lions.
Modglin took home titles in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and the 200 IM. In the 200 freestyle, Modglin posted a time of 1:51.63, which was good for first place, beating her teammate in senior Erin Thomas (Bangor, Maine) by half a second. In the 200 back, Modglin smashed the field, winning by five seconds, recording a time of 2:00.06 and beating the next person by about five seconds. Modglin then wrapped up her day with a win over in the IM, finishing at 2:05.41.
Sophomore Chelsea Weedman (Poway, Calif.) was a two-event winner for the Nittany Lions on the day. Weedman took home the 200 butterfly title, as she posted a time of 2:04.22. Weedman's other victory came over in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:03.29 to beat the field by three seconds.
Also winning two events on the day was senior Sam Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.). Palser took home the title in the 50 freestyle, as she earned a time of 23.48 seconds. Palser also swam the 100 freestyle in 51.89 seconds to earn first place.
Sophomore Mackenzie Powers (Sycamore, Ill.) was Penn State's other two-event winner. Powers was victorious in the 100 butterfly, as she clocked in at 55.44. Powers was also a winner in the 100 butterfly.
Penn State next takes on Indiana and Virginia at the McCoy Natatorium on Nov. 18 and 19th.
