Swimming & Diving Hosts Navy & Arkansas Saturday

Jan. 13, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's and women's swimming & diving teams will be in action on Saturday at McCoy Natatorium as the Navy Midshipmen and Arkansas Razorbacks women's squad compete. The event will commence at 11:00 a.m. with live stats available on GoPSUsports.com

The No. 23 Nittany Lion men's swimming & diving squad (2-3) is looking to win its first dual since Nov. 5 at Georgia Tech. Penn State swimming last competed in an exhibition winter meet against North Carolina in Naples, Fla., while the divers took part in Georgia's Bulldog Shootout to open 2012. Prior to that, PSU finished third at the OSU Invitational posting over 20 NCAA "B" cut times. The Nittany Lions are 0-1 all-time against Navy with the lone meeting occurring in 1944, a 64-11 Midshipmen victory.

Navy (8-1) enters Saturday coming off its first dual meet loss of the year, a tightly contested 152.5-147.5 decision at the hands of No. 22 Princeton. Previously, the Mids reeled off eight straight dual meet victories including a rousing 159-139 upset win over nationally ranked Virginia.

On the women's side, No. 20 Arkansas meets Penn State (2-3) for the first time in a double dual meet with Navy. The Nittany Lion women are 1-0 all-time against Navy, taking a dominating 164-85 victory in Annapolis. Navy defeated Army for the 23rd straight year in December to bring its record to 6-2.

Despite a 0-2 record, Arkansas is a highly talented team, dropping tough duals to SEC foes Auburn and Florida. The Razorbacks won the Rice Invitational before finishing fourth of seven teams at the Tennessee Invitational. Arkansas finished tied for 32nd in the 2011 NCAA Championships and return All-American miler Chelsea Franklin.
