UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The No. 22/21 Penn State Lady Lions (14-4, 4-2) welcome the Iowa Hawkeyes (11-8, 3-3) to the Bryce Jordan Center for the only meeting between the squads this season on Sunday at 3 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 with Pam Ward and Rosalyn Gold-Onwude on the call. Fans will receive a Lady Lion baseball cap at the gates, while supplies last. Additionally, fans that donate a new or gently used winter coat for the Lady Lions' coat drive will get a voucher to participate in a postgame autograph session with four Lady Lions on the concourse. As always, Penn State students get in for free with ID.
GIVEAWAY: Fans will receive a Lady Lion baseball cap at the gates, while supplies last.
HALFTIME: Quick Change will perform at halftime.
PROMOTIONS: The game is a Subway Full Court 4-Pack, fans get four reserved game tickets, one voucher good for four 6-inch subs at any of seven State College Subway locations, and one voucher good for four soft drinks at the BJC, for just $40. Additionally, Kids Day where all kids that in 8th grade or younger will be admitted for FREE if they wear Lady Lion Basketball gear. There also will be a Kids FunZone on the concourse with face painters, caricature artists, airbrush tattoos and a create-a-sign station. As always, Penn State students get in for free with ID. LAST TIME OUT: The Lady Lions used to gritty performance to battle a tough Illinois team to the end and managed to come away with the 71-65 win in Champaign Thursday. Sophomore guard Maggie Lucas was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field en route to a game-high 19 points. Junior guard Alex Bentley also reached double figures with 15 points, four assists and a pair of steals, while Nikki Greene added 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Zhaque Gray scored all nine of her points in the final eight-plus minutes in front of a large contingent of family and friends.
SCOUTING IOWA: The Hawkeyes are 11-8 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten play after a 69-57 win over Wisconsin Thursday. Jaime Printy leads the Iowa attack with an 18.1 scoring average, including 37 three-pointers. Morgan Johnson is second on the squad in scoring (14.7) and first in rebounding (6.5). Kamille Wahlin also averages double figures for the Hawkeyes at a 10.8 per game clip.
ALL-TIME VS. THE HAWKEYES: The Lady Lions are 23-17 all-time against Iowa, including a 13-5 mark in home games. After a five-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes, Penn State has won four of the last give against Iowa, including a season sweep a year ago. The Lady Lions picked up a 68-59 win at the BJC to open conference play on Dec. 30, 2010 and won in Iowa City on Feb. 6, 2011 (82-75).
LAST TIME VS. IOWA: Penn State saw all nine players in the game score as the Lady Lions topped #20/22 Iowa, 82-75, on Feb. 6, 2011. Alex Bentley was stellar on the day, going 11-for-17 from the field en route to a game-high 25 points. She also accounted for five assists and three rebounds. Maggie Lucas connected on four three-pointers and finished with 18 points and three rebounds. Mia Nickson earned her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
PERFECT ROAD START: The Lady Lions are off to a 3-0 start on the road in the Big Ten for the first time since 2004-05 when that squad also started 3-0.
LUCAS REACHES 900: Sophomore guard Maggie Lucas surpassed the 900-point mark for her career with 19 tallies in the win over Illinois Jan. 19. Lucas now has 917 career points. She is the third-fastest player to reach 900 points behind Kelly Mazzante and Susan Robinson. When she reaches 1,000 points, Lucas will be the second Lady Lion to accomplish the feat this year (Alex Bentley). She will also be just the third player in Lady Lion history to reach 1,000 points as a sophomore.
BENTLEY CLIMBS THEFTS LIST: With two steals at Illinois Jan. 19, junior guard Alex Bentley moved into 18th place on Penn State's career steals chart with 175 career thefts. She passed Angie Potthoff (174; 193-97) for the spot. Bentley needs five steals to tie Susan Robinson (180; 1989-92) for 17th spot.
BENTLEY MOVES INTO 27TH IN SCORING: With 15 points against Illinois Jan. 19, junior guard Alex Bentley moved into a tie with Sue Martin (1,135; 1977-80) for 27th place on Penn State's career scoring list. Bentley needs seven points to tie Jess Brungo (1,142; 2001-04) for 26th place.
BENTLEY MOVES UP TWO CHARTS: With 15 points and three steals against the Illini Jan. 19, junior guard Alex Bentley moved up a pair of Penn State career charts. Bentley is now tied with Sue Martin for 27th place on the program's scoring chart with 1,035 points. She also moved into 18th place on the all-time steals list with 175 thefts, passing Angie Potthoff for the position.
GREENE MOVING UP CHARTS: Junior center Nikki Greene is steadily moving up the career charts after pulling in eight rebounds at Illinois Jan. 19. Greene now has 606 career rebounds to pass Helen Holloway (598; 1991-94) for 20th place on Penn State's career boards chart. Greene needs 16 rebounds to move past Tanisha Wright (621; 2002-05) for 19th place. Additionally, Greene is in sixth place on the Penn State career blocks list with 155 rejections. She needs 20 blocks to move into the Top 5 all-time.
OFFICIAL PINK ZONE T-SHIRTS: The Official 2012 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State t-shirt is available at all Penn State Bookstore location. This year, there is an official adult shirt that is $15 with $5 of every shirt going to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts, as well as an official youth shirt that is $10 with $2 of every shirt going to Pink Zone.
The Lady Lions are back on the road as they head to the state of Michigan to face the Wolverines Thursday and the Spartans Sunday. The Michigan State game will be televised on ESPN2. Penn State is back in the BJC to meet Indiana on Thursday, Feb. 2 for THON night at 7 p.m. Single game tickets and PNC Flex Books are available by calling 800-NITTANY. PNC Flex Books are $99 and give fans 12 vouchers, including one for the Coaches vs. Cancer game and one for the Pink Zone game, which can be redeemed for Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball tickets in any combination. The Starting 5 Pack is $49 and features tickets to three games of the buyer's choice, a ticket for the Ohio State ESPN2 Big Monday game on Monday, Feb. 20 and a ticket for the Pink Zone game against Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 26.
The 2012 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26 as the Lady Lions take on Minnesota in the Bryce Jordan Center. Last year, the Lady Lions donated nearly $200,000 for breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C.
