UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Redshirt freshman Nick Goodell (Ambridge, Pa.) was named the EIVA Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. This is the first honor of Goodell's career.
Goodell was integral to Penn State's wins against No.4 Stanford and No. 12 Pacific at the Ken and Dave Dunlap Invitational hosted by Ohio State on Jan. 27-28. Against the Cardinal, Goodell played three sets tallying 10 kills on .333 hitting and contributed two blocks. The following night against the Tigers, Goodell made his first start. Goodell led the team with 17 kills on .382 hitting. He also had a team-high three aces, as well as six digs and five blocks.
For the weekend, Goodell was second on the team with 27 kills and had a .364 hitting percentage. He was also second on the squad with seven total blocks.
Penn State welcomes Ohio State, Mt. Olive and Cal-Baptist to Rec Hall on Feb. 3-4. Ohio State plays in the first match on Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m. Penn State follows at 7:30 p.m. facing Mt. Olive on Feb. 3 and Cal-Baptist on Feb. 4.
