Quaterback Matt McGloin:
Q: Talk about the recruits a little bit. As an upperclassmen, do they take on a different meaning for you guys considering that they stayed with Penn State through this whole thing?
A: Well, Penn State is definitely a different place and tough to come into, especially with the way we work out. We go hard in everything we do. With the recruits, well, I had the opportunity to host Steve Bench when he came here. He is a quarterback coming in. He seemed like a great kid, had a great family. We are excited to have him and he someone I will definitely take under my wing.
Q: How has the coaching staff and everyone assimilated? It has seemed like a two-minute drill to get to this point.
A: It's tough, but I think Coach O'Brien has done a great job and put together a great staff. This is definitely the best staff that Penn State could have. I hope I can have a quarterback coach soon. I'm not sure what he's doing there. I have not heard anything yet, but I think the guys we have now are great guys. He's done a great job getting the strength and conditioning guys in here. I can only speak for myself, but I'm excited.
Q: How excited are you for Coach O'Brien to be the full-time head coach after Sunday?
A: It is definitely exciting. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach O'Brien and we talked about things we would like to do. It is tough with him being away but we are behind him 100% and support him. I am anxious for him to get back and get into the playbook and prepare for next season.
Q: You are a firey guy and so is O'Brien. Do you think we will see that at all?
A: Yeah, I mean I would not be surprised if we bumped head a few times but that is what you want to do with your coach. You want to be able to work together. Hopefully, our relationship will be based on respect and guys that are trying to do what is best for the team. As you said, I am a firey guy as is he, I think that if we do every get into an argument it will be just that and that will be the end of it. Things like that do happen especially when you are both working hard.
Q: On new Strength and Conditioning Program.
A: We do not use any machines anymore. We are running, lifting four days a week. Today is an optional day to come in and get some individual work in. A lot of guys are doing that. What is good is that a lot of guys are buying into it. Like I said, we are not using machines so it is a lot of free weights, a lot of squats, a lot of dead lifts. It's new and it is different and we are happy about it.
Q: Have you gotten a playbook to study yet?
A: I have gotten a QB manual and some form of the playbook. It is big. It is going to be tough to go through, but that is what you want. You want something different, and I do not doubt that I will be able to get through it and we will have success with it.
