FULLERTON, Calif. - Steady rain and unplayable field conditions forced the cancellation of the Judi Garman Classic for Saturday and Sunday. Penn State had three games scheduled against Fresno State, BYU and Cal State Fullerton, but none of the games will be made up.
A weather front moved into California overnight and moved south during the morning. The early games were attempted at 9:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., but they were cancelled in the early going. The rainouts are the first of the season for PSU.
Penn State returns to action next week for a three-game series at No. 19 Michigan. The Nittany Lions and Wolverines tangle in a Saturday doubleheader on Mar. 24 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The final game of the series is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in Ann Arbor.
The Big Ten opening series will have live stats on GameTracker. Penn State softball's official Facebook (PennStateSoftball) and Twitter (@PSULionSoftball) will also post updates. The series is also tentatively slated for a BTN.com broadcast by Michigan through the Big Ten Network's Student-U initiative.
