| FREE Live Video | Twitter | Facebook UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 12th-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team will open a three game road swing on Saturday when it visits Delaware (2-4) for a 12 p.m. non-conference clash at Delaware Stadium in Newark.
In its last outing, Penn State (4-2) was dealt a tough 12-10 overtime home loss to No. 17 Loyola (Md.) on Saturday. The Nittany Lions held a four-goal advantage twice in the first half but couldn't hold the lead and were outscored 2-0 in the overtime period. Sophomore Mackenzie Cyr (Westminster, Md.) led the Nittany with five points, scoring three goals and tallying two assists. Senior Molly Fernandez (Baltimore, Md.) added three points, on two goals and one assist, while freshman Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) netted two goals. Senior goalkeeper Dana Cahill (Towson, Md.) recorded 15 saves, including eight in the second half.
Delaware enters Saturday's game mired in a three-game losing streak, including dropping the last two at home, falling to La Salle (9-8) and UMBC (15-6). The Blue Hens have one common opponent with Penn State at this point in the season, Maryland, which they fell to 21-4 in College Park in their season opener. Delaware's primary offensive weapons are Caitlin McCartney (12 goals, 2 assists) and Chelsea Fay (12 goals, 1 assist). Goalkeepers Alex Zaugra (4 starts, 12.85 GAA) and Tori Zorovich (2 starts, 11.92 GAA) have shared time in net.
Penn State owns a 24-6 record in its all-time series with Delaware, playing the Blue Hens every year since 1979 with the exception of the 1981-82, 1994, and 2009 seasons. The Nittany Lions won 16 of the first 17 meetings but have gone 8-5 since. Last season, on the strength of a stellar defensive performance, which included holding the Blue Hens scoreless for the final 22-plus minutes, Penn State defeated Delaware, 11-3, at Bigler Field.

Penn State will venture back out of the road next week, traveling to Hempstead, N.Y. for a mid-week game with Hofstra (2-3). The Nittany Lions and Pride will meet on Wednesday, March 14 at 3 p.m. at James M. Shuart Stadium. A year ago, Penn State used an 11-goal second half outburst to down Hofstra, 16-7, in Happy Valley in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
