MADISON, Wis. - The Penn State softball team could not cool off the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday in a 9-0, five-inning game at Goodman Diamond. The Nittany Lions head back east to take on Kent State on Wednesday for a doubleheader.
Wisconsin (27-13, 11-4 Big Ten) continued its winning ways with another first-inning rally, tagging Penn State (13-26, 5-10 Big Ten) for four runs. Shannel Blackshear earned a bases-loaded walk before a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly and a single from Karla Powell made it 4-0.
Wisconsin distanced itself by added an unearned run in the second and four runs in the fourth for a 9-0 advantage. Penn State managed two hits at the plate, one a single from Shannon Hutchinson (Sewell, N.J.) and the other a double by Kasie Hatfield (Tampa, Fla.). Hatfield was named the Big Ten's Player of the Week coming into the weekend.
Penn State will finish its five-game road stretch with a Wednesday doubleheader at Kent State. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. with live stats on GameTracker courtesy of GoPSUsports.com and KSU will have live video.
