UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State baseball (10-18, 2-4) picked up its third straight victory in an 8-2 win over the Binghamton Bearcats on Wednesday night at Medlar Field. Seniors Sean Deegan (Readington, N.J.) and Jordan Steranka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each had three hits in the victory. Junior Cody Lewis (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) picked up his second win of the season on the mound.
After Binghamton scored one in the top of the first, Penn State would answer with a four-spot in the third inning. Deegan got things going with a base-hit with one out to extend his hitting-streak to seven games. Deegan stole his 41st career base and would eventually score on a wild pitch. Sophomore Steve Snyder (West Chester, Pa.) scored on an RBI single by senior Joey DeBernardis (Lake Zurich, Ill.) to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Lions. Steranka followed with an RBI double and freshman JJ White (Lansdowne, Va.) hit a sacrifice fly to give Penn State a 4-1 advantage. Penn State would add another in the fourth and fifth inning to go along with two in the sixth. Snyder's sac fly in the fourth put Penn State up 5-1. In the fifth, freshman Aaron Novak (Ambler, Pa.) got things started with a triple and then would score on an RBI single by junior Elliot Searer (Lewistown, Pa.). Snyder earned his second RBI on the night with an RBI triple to give the Lions an 8-1 lead at that point.
Sophomore Evan Dixon (Waynesboro, Pa.), sophomore Greg Welsh (Holland, Pa.) and junior Dave Walkling (Nanaimo, Canada) combined for one earned run in relief of Lewis.
Penn State will host Canisius in a three-game set beginning this Friday at 6:05 at Medlar Field. All student season ticket holders that attend Friday's game can get free food as part of the "Free Food Friday" promotion. In addition, it will be Dollar Dog Night at the ballpark. Following Saturday's game, all kids in attendance can participate in an Easter Egg Hunt on the field.
Season tickets for students are just $20 and each student that purchases them will receive a Penn State Baseball three-quarters sleeve t-shirt, tickets to remaining home games, free food on Friday home games and two batting practice sessions with the team.
Season tickets for Adult General Admission start at just $63. For fans interested in the "In The Box" seats, those will start at $99. Youth General Admission tickets are the same cost as student season tickets, $20. Individual game tickets for Adult General Admission start at just $4 and just $2 for youth.
